Wild Cherry was a funk/disco group formed in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, in 1970. Led by a singer/songwriter Rob Parissi, they hit it big with the infectious, punk-rock hybrid "Play That Funky Music" in 1976. The song gained an instant popularity, shot to no.1 spot on both pop and R&B chart. Unfortunately, their follow-up works could not get any attention and they split up in 1979.
