Disco One Hit

Undoubtly the most distinctive and memorable music trend of all-time. This popular, yet short-live music gene can be argued as the embodiment the 1970s. Having its root in funk, soul, club nightlife and homosexualism, disco influence quickly spreaded beyond music into social lifestyle, fashion, and even motion pictures. During this cultural boom, a lot of previously less-known artists used this opportunity to step into the spotlight. While many became successfull, a number of them could enjoy their fame for just a brief time - and eventually ended up as one-hit wonders. First Choice was vocal group from Philadelphia in the early 1970s. Initially known as the Debonettes, they gained public recognition when their second singles "Armed and Extremely Dangerous" broke into both R&B and Pop chart. Although they produced more disco chart hits throughout the 1970s, they never been able to make another crossover hit again until disbanded in 1984.

Manu Dibango was African's most famous jazz saxophonist whose works have been heard around the world since the 1950s. He made it to Billboard chart once with "Soul Makossa". This dance beat became no.35 hit in 1973 - made it the only African song, by African, to ever enter the Billboard Top40 chart.

A Brooklyn-native Carol Douglas started her career as a teenage actress in small films, TV shows and commercials. She sang with the Chantels in the early 70s before went solo in 1974. Her version of Sunny's UK hit "Doctor's Orders" became an big hit on both disco and pop chart and gained her an instant fame. Sadly, all of her following works failed to catch any attention and eventually faded away from the chart.

Van Allen Clinton McCoy was a soul artist form New Jersey. In 1972, after having been written numerous classics for many aritsts, McCoy began to release his own materials. He hit it big in 1975 when his original "The Hustle" topped both R&B and pop chart. Unfortunately, his next works could not yield any success and he quietly withdrew from the front until he died in 1979 at the age of 39.

This electro-disco band was formed by two British session vocalists, Tina Charles and Martin Jay. In 1975, they found success with their debut's B-side song "I'm On Fire" that became a big hit across Europe and climbed to no.26 in US chart. After Charles left for solo career in early 1976, the group tried to continue with new vocalist but proved to be unsuccessful. The band dissolved by the end of 1976.

She did a little support tour, before retired from music world for good.

Walter Anthony Murphy, Jr. was a New York jazz and classical pianist in the early 70s. During the disco boom, Murphy got an idea of adapting classcial music into disco. His rendition of Beethoven's "Symphony No.5 in C Minor" became a smash and topped the pop chart for a week. He followed with a series of albums, but none of them become a hit. He left mainstream music in 1982.

Brass Construction was a disco outfit from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 1968. The band released their self-title debut in 1975. It was a commercial success thanked to the no.14 hit "Movin'". They tried to follow this momentum with four more albums. Sadly, none of the them could yield another hit, and they finally disbanded in 1985.
