soundgarden reveal new trailer

Soundgarden reveal album artwork and trailer

 by SALLY BAILEY

Soundgarden will release King Animal, the band’s first new studio album in over 15 years on November 13th, 2012.

Check out the chilly album trailer below and the cover art attached. I don't see any human skulls in the artfully arranged pile, so I guess "King Animal" is a very artisitc and bloodthirsty homo sapien with an eye for design.

rolling stones deny the show

Rolling Stones Deny 50th Anniversary Shows
 by PAUL CASHMERE

After much rumour as fact the Rolling Stones have made a statement to say that those stories of some 50th anniversary shows we keep hearing so much about are not true.

In a tweet, the Stones announced, “Dear fans, no Rolling Stones gigs have been confirmed or announced. Do not buy tickets from the SongKick website, or anywhere else”.

The Rolling Stones have been rumoured to be playing two shows in New York and two shows in London before the end of this year to mark their 50th anniversary year. The story even spread to them doing one show at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.

The Rolling Stones will mark their 50th anniversary with the greatest hits album ‘GRRR!’ in November featuring two new tracks ‘Gloom and Doom’ and ‘One More Shot’, recorded in Paris in August 2012.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood are also confirmed to attend the premiere of the movie ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ later this month.

judge ban velvet underground to reunion
Judge stipulates that the Velvet Underground will never play together again
 by SALLY BAILEY

Anyone hanging out for a Velevet Undergorund reunion can appararently put that dream to bed, according to a district court judge ruling in a copyright case regarding the iconic V.U banana.

Rolling Stone has reported that the Velvet Underground have lost their claim to the copyright ownership of the iconic Andy Warhol Banana that appears on the cover of the bands 1967 debut album "The Velvet Underground & Nico." The Velvets were counter suing the the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts for a claim made in 2009 by the Andy Warhol Foundation that the use of the banana image infringed the foundations copyright. The Velvet Undergorund claimed that the image was a trademark logo of the band and that the Warhol Foundation has to pay licensing fees for it's use.

Judge Alison Nathan rejected the claim that the image was a band trademark, based on the Warhol Foundations promise never to sue the Velvet Underground for copyright infringement for use of the banana design.

Judge Nathan did not rule on who owned the image but did include the following stipulation amongst others in her judgment "The Velvet Underground broke up as a band in 1972; it last performed live in  1993 and will never perform live again."

ac/dc to release new album in 20 years
AC/DC to release first live album in 20 years in November

AC/DC have announced that they will be releasing their first live album in 20 years in November.

The album, which is titled AC/DC Live At River Plate, was recorded in Argentina at the River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires' in December 2009. The band played to nearly 200,000 people over the course of the three nights they played at the stadium.

The 19-track collection was previously released as a live DVD in May last year, but will now be made available as a live album on November 19. It will be released as a two-disc CD and a three-disc red vinyl package, featuring multiple album covers and a special 24-page booklet.

It is the band's first full-length live album since 1992's AC/DC Live. They released two live discs in 1997 as part of their Bonfire boxset, but this is the first stand-alone live release since AC/DC Live.

AC/DC have said recently that their new studio album is at least "a year or two away".

The Australian stadium rockers released their 15th studio album Black Ice in 2008 and their frontman Brian Johnson had previously said that they are keen to start work on the follow-up, even hinting it could be released in 2013.

However guitarist Malcolm Young denied it would be released that soon, saying: Young said: "You know what Brian's [Johnson] like. He just says things and then walks away. It’ll be a little while – a year or two anyway. I've been doing some jamming on some song ideas but I do that all the time, as do the rest of the band."

He continued: "We are still working. But we had a long rest between 'Stiff Upper Lip' and 'Black Ice', so I think we need a couple of years to recuperate and work on it a bit more."

The tracklisting for 'AC/DC Live At River Plate' is as follows:

'Rock N Roll Train'
'Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Be'
'Back In Black'
'Big Jack'
'Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap'
'Shot Down In Flames'
'Thunderstruck'
'Black Ice'
'The Jack'
'Hells Bells'
'Shoot To Thrill'
'War Machine'
'Dog Eat Dog'
'You Shook Me All Night Long'
'T.N.T.'
'Whole Lotta Rosie'
'Let There Be Rock'
'Highway To Hell'
'For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)'

citadel records to celebrate rock and roll in october

Citadel Records celebrate 30 years of rock & roll goodtimes in October

 by SALLY BAILEY

A lot of good things have turned the big 3-0 this year and Citadel Records is one of the best of them.

Responsible for releasing and supporting some of the greatest Australian bands ever, Citadel Records was formed early in 1982 with the express intention of providing an outlet for the release of music created by alternative and unsigned local Sydney bands. Many of the early releases were centered on post Radio Birdman groups, the labels founder John Needham having been involved with the legendary Radio Birdman for the entirety of its career. The label grew quickly from this small beginning to become a leading figure in the domestic 80s Australian alternative music movement. With a thriving local live music scene in place the label helped many of its acts build a national reputation with its emphasis on touring to promote the steady stream of music being released. This era saw the emergence of many acts that would soon come to prominence and move on to sign with major companies. Headlining the roster were Sydney based Died Pretty, New Christs, Lime Spiders, Screaming Tribesman, Trilobites and out of Western Australia, The Stems.

Still going strong after 30 years, Citadel Records will celibrate that anniversary by presenting three one-off shows at the end of October that highlight three acts currently on their roster. Perth’s DomNicks, featuring Dom Mariani of The Stems/DM3 and one time Clash member Nick Sheppard, will present their debut album Super Real. Also on the bill will be Radio Birdman’s guitarist/songwriter Deniz Tek and Penny Ikinger, both of whom released albums last year on Citadel as well as featuring on various Citadel releases dating right back to Citadel's beginnings.

Better be quick off the mark for this one as tickets will go like chipotle dogs...(through the system very quickly...)

Fri 26th Oct: Caravan Music Club - Oakleigh (Melbourne)

Sat 27th Oct: Sandringham Hotel - Newtown (Sydney)

Sun 28th Oct: The Patch - Fairy Meadow (Wollongong)
