Football star Lionel Messi forms Oasis tribute band
by JOE BOSSO
Lionel Messi is such an Oasis superfan that he's formed an Oasis tribute band. And not only that, but the Argentinian football star plans to take his group on a tour through Europe.
Messi, whose day job consists of playing for Spain's FC team Barcelona, is the 'Noel Gallagher' of the band. According to he Sun, one of Messi's team mates is also in the group, playing frontman Liam, but Messi doesn't want to divulge his identity as of yet.
Apparently, the sports superstar takes the act quite seriously. "Our disguise is based on how Oasis looked in the mid-'90s," he said. "We have our wigs, clothes and glasses sorted. I also spent a lot of time getting the mannerisms right."
He's not shy when it comes to his unnamed band's abilities to deliver the musical goods, either - the 23-year-old has invited Noel Gallagher to see them play. "We'll visit the UK. If you're at a pub or club where we are performing and see past our disguises there'll be a decent prize in it for you," Messi said.

Hugh Laurie, the celebrated star of the hospital drama House (that's what he's known as in the US, anyway), is set to record an album of what he calls "New Orleans blues."
Laurie is booked to hit the studio with acclaimed producer Joe Henry, who has worked with artists such as Elvis Costello, Aimee Mann and Allen Toussaint. The Golden Globe-winning Laurie, though itching to lay down tracks, is well aware that past musical efforts by actors haven't always been well received.
In a press statement, Laurie said, "I am drunk with excitement at this opportunity. I know the history of actors making music is a checkered one, but I promise no one will get hurt. I am particularly thrilled to be working with Joe Henry, who has produced some of my favourite records of all time, and I can't wait to get started."
While it is true that albums by actors such as Bruce Willis, Keanu Reeves, Steven Seagal and Eddie Murphy have been savaged by critics, Jeff Bridges recently won accolades (and a pantload of awards, including an Oscar) for doing his own singing and guitar playing in the movie Crazy Heart.
Laurie has signed a deal with Warner Music Entertainment and will go into the studio in the coming months. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, we couldn't let a story about 'Hugh Laurie: musician' pass without reminding you of some of the great work he did with Stephen Fry...
The Hoosiers ready 'longest pop song ever to be released in the UK'
by ALICE PORTER
The Hoosiers are set to break records with the release of a 43-minute charity single, Choices, out on 1 August.
Going well against the conventional 3-minute track, Choices will see The Hoosiers break the record for, 'the longest download single in history', and 'the longest pop song ever to be released in the UK'.
The song was written with the help of fans, who had the chance to submit a verse in hope of it making the final selection and have their photo shown on the music video. Special guests Katy Brand and Jeff Leach are also involved in the project.
The English-Swedish trio are donating all proceeds to Teenage Cancer Trust so - love or loathe the band's unique brand of pop rock (see Goodbye Mr A and Worried About Ray for a reminder) – dig deep. And clear some space on your iPod…
