Rolling Stones' Charlie Watts has not quit : official! |
Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has not quit the legendary rock'n'roll band, his spokesman has told Uncut.co.uk this afternoon (September 2).
Claims made earlier today on Australian website undercover.com.au that Charlie Watts had quit The Rolling Stones were posted online at 10am (GMT), quoting an unnamed source in the band’s inner circle who said the drummer “will never record or tour with the band again.”
The story was subsequently picked up by a number of online news services before a statement was released to Uncut.co.uk at 5pm (GMT) by the band’s UK spokesperson.
The statement reads: “Contrary to a fabricated story that ran this morning on a small music web site in Australia, drummer Charlie Watts has not left The Rolling Stones.”
Charlie Watts joined the band in 1963.
The rumour comes a few days after the news that the police are planning to re-examine the death of the Stones’ former guitarist Brian Jones, who drowned in 1969.

The singer told Black Voices that he had worked on five songs with Jackson, and was adamant that they would see the light of day.
"We're going to get it out," he said of the songs, which were recorded in Kelly's home studio. "Michael liked the way I would try to sing the songs just like him. I recorded five joints for [Jackson]."
There is thought to be a wealth of unreleased music Michael Jackson had been working on prior to his death. He had collaborated by artists including William, Akon and Ne-Yo as well with R Kelly.

Robbie Williams: 'I want to rejoin Take That' |
Robbie Williams has outlined his desire to rejoin Take That following the release of his new album 'Reality Killed The Video Star'.
The singer told Chris Moyles on BBC Radio 1 that he was up for reuniting with the group – and he would have done it earlier if it wasn't for the relative failure of his last solo album, 2006's 'Rudebox'.
"Perception was such that it was, 'Oh look, he's had to get up with these [Take That] now and 'Rudebox' has failed," he said. " I thought I'd wait off a little bit and get my album out and then I can go and play with my mates."
When asked if he fancied rejoining, he said: "Yeah I do, I don't know so much about all the dancing and that though. I'd like to. It would be fun."
Meanwhile, Williams has revealed the tracklisting of 'Reality Killed The Video Star', which is set for release on November 9. The album will be preceded by a single, 'Bodies', out October 11.
The tracklisting of 'Reality Killed The Video Star' will be:
'Morning Sun'
'Bodies'
'You Know Me'
'Blasphemy'
'Do You Mind?'
'Last Days Of Disco'
'Somewhere'
'Deceptacon'
'Starstruck'
'Difficult For Weirdos'
'Superblind'
'Won't Do That'
'Morning Sun (Reprise)'

Bruce Hornsby, Eric Clapton To Launch 'Levitate' On Leno |
by GARY GRAFF |
Bruce Hornsby will be launching his new album, "Levitate," with appearances on prime-time TV and in a feature film.
Hornsby and his band, the Noisemakers, will be one of the musical guests on the inaugural week of NBC's "The Jay Leno Show," performing "Space is the Place" on the Sept. 17 show with Eric Clapton, who plays on the track on "Levitate." "(Clapton)'s the only reason we're on it," Hornsby tells Billboard.com, with a laugh. "A serious B-teamer like myself would never have been asked to be on the first week of Leno They're getting Kanye West, probably trying to raise Ray Charles from the dead. We're the exception, because of EC. It pays to have legendary friends."
Hornsby says Clapton actually recorded his part during the making of 2004's "Halycon Days," when "Space is the Place" was still "a half-assed track we were working on. I knew Eric (who played on three songs on 'Halcyon Days') would play his ass off on it and we had some time, so I said, 'Hey, could I put this up and let you rip over it, two or three times and that would be it?' He was fine with that, and now it's on ('Levitate')." The track also features one of Hornsby's twin sons, Russell, then 12 and now 17, rapping.
Hornsby also plays himself for a cameo in "World's Greatest Dad," a dark comedy starring Robin Williams and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait which is currently in limited release. The film also makes use of several Hornsby songs, including "Levitate's" title track.
"I'm kind of a running joke in the movie, an undercurrent," Hornsby notes. "Robin Williams' character is a fan of mine, and his son...rags on everything his dad does, including his taste in music. 'Bruce Hornsby's gay!' is one of the best lines. And there's a great scene with two goth girls fighting over my 'Spirit Trail' record in the hallway of the high school...I make an appearance and sing the minor-key bluegrass version of 'Mandolin Rain.'"
But Hornsby, whose wife and sons were extras, isn't plotting a career change. "I had two lines, and I was 0 for two," he jokes. "I'm not waiting for the calls to start from Duvall and Deniro. I don't think that's gonna happen."
"Levitate" comes out Sept. 15. Hornsby and the Noisemakers kick off a tour on Sept. 12 in Hampton.
