The Only Ones: Reunited!

Peter Perrett, Alan Mair, John Perry and Mike Kellie - The legendary Only Ones, have just been confirmed to play the Dirty Three curated All Tomorrow's Parties weekend in April.

As well as this one-off show - their first in 22 years - there is speculation that they will play this year's Glastonbury festival.

In an interview with Scottish newspaper The Daily Record late last year, bassist Alan Mair suggested that a Glasto slot is theirs for the taking, if they chose to reform.

The elusive Perrett has always said that the group would reform "over my dead body," and lead guitarist John Perry has ben quoted as saying "the English cricket team will win an Ashes series 5-0 before the Only Ones reform."

However public demand from fans has surged since their long-held cult status went into the commercial stratosphere last Summer. Their hit '77 single, "Another Girl, Another Planet" was used on mobile phone company Vodafone's TV ad campaign, giving the group a fresh lease of life.

There's no word if the Only Ones will record any new material, or indeed play any further shows.

Perrett's last solo effort "Woke Up Sticky" came out in the mid '90s.

The ATP weekend runs from April 27 - 30, and Nick Cave will headline.
Other artists playing include Joanna Newsom, Spiritualised, Bill Callaghan, Cat Power and Cave's side-project Grinderman.

Squeeze: Reunion Not Out Of The Question

Squeeze leaders Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook might be moving toward a reunion. Difford left the group in 1999, and both men have refused all calls to re-form the band. But Difford, who was the group's main lyricist, recently told billboard.com that the chances are pretty good for Squeeze to work together again. He said, "I think it would be pretty amazing, really... We get offers all the time. We got an offer just today to support Crowded House on their American tour, which I think would be an amazing tour, but I'm not sure we're both in agreement about how we would do it."

Difford added, "Yes, I think it will happen at some stage, but I don't know if this time is the right time. We need to sit in a room and discuss it, and we've got to have concrete plans, and we have to get a booking agent... But it has to be emotionally, spiritually, and financially the right thing, and when all those planets come into line, then we will be there. At the time being, I can't see it on the horizon, but I've been wrong before."

That's quite a change from our last few interviews with Tilbrook, who was the lead singer and guitarist in Squeeze. Tilbrook has always said basically the same thing about whether he and Difford will join forces again as Squeeze: "Not working together has enabled us to appreciate each other for what we are. And not having the responsibility of going up each other's noses all the time has enabled us to get back our relationship, which was lost, really, when we started making records. I would rather have the relationship with Chris, and friendship, rather than the professional relationship -- that's more important to me. And we get on better now than we have done at, you know, any point since 1976, which is great."

That's not to say they haven't worked together in recent years. They sat down with author Jim Drury and recounted their history and music for the book Squeeze: Song By Song, and they co-wrote the song "Where I Can Be Your Friend" on Tilbrook's 2004 album Transatlantic Ping Pong. They were also together in the U.K. recently to help promote a new Squeeze greatest-hits album.

Difford kicks off a U.S. tour on Sunday (February 25th) in Nashville.

Sonic Youth: To Play Daydream Nation Live

The first three acts to perform as part of the Don't Look Back season of shows have been announced.

Sonic Youth, Slint and House Of Love are all to perform a classic album in it's entirety as part of the event curated by All Tomorrow's Parties.

Sonic Youth will play their 1988 album "Daydream Nation" in full for the first time since it was recorded. Their 70-minute, sixth album, is regarded as one of the best albums of the 80s, and was the one that landed them with a multi-album major recording deal.

Prior to the show at London's Roundhouse on August 31, a two-disc deluxe version of "Daydream Nation" will be released. Including bonus tracks and it will remind how great tracks like "Teenage Riot" through to "Eric’s Trip" are.

Slint will be performing "Spiderland" at London's KoKo on August 22 and House of Love will be playing their eponymous debut for Creation records at the same venue on September 13.

Previous amazing one-off shows have seen The Stooges perform "Fun House" and Teenage Fanclub play us "Bandwagonesque."

Spandau Ballet: Will Not Reunited!

Eighties pop act Spandau Ballet have done something un-heard of in the last few months, by confirming that they will NOT be re-forming.

Although the likes of Duran Duran and The Police have all recently hit the comeback trail Tony Hadley said: "I'm doing great without the band”

"I know you should never say never and bands in the past have said hell would freeze over before they got back together, but in our case I think hell is frozen and we still wouldn't do it." He added.

The group have been on the warpath since three of the members, including Tony himself, failed in their bid to sue Gary Kemp for a share of the royalties.
