Yusuf Islam: An Other Cup |
|
The soft rock specialist Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens) is the kind of musician who is pretty good at maintaining his styles. His latest album "An Other Cup" almost sounds like any of his albums from the seventies. His music is peaceful and his singing is very passionate. Although the starting song "Midday (Avoid City After Dark)" comes out a little bit off, the strength of the album is restored by the sensational "Maybe There's a World". Another highlight of this album is "One Day At A Time", an strong example of his folk-rock style. The second half of this album is full of his spiritual side and religion influence, from the short spoken-word track "When Butterflies Leave". There are religious songs with the touch of Middle East sound, such as "Whispers from a Spiritual Garden" and the "The Beloved". Almost unexpected is the cover version of the wel-known The Animals' song, "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", sounds as good as it could get from the folk artist. The last track, the peaceful "Green Fields, Golden Sands", ends the album nicely. This is the album for the listeners who want the good soft rock music, regardless the bias against the religion contents. |
