Ferde (Ferdie) Grofé was an American composer, arranger, and pianist from New York City. During the 1920s, he was a pianist and arranger for Paul Whiteman's orchestra, where he composed many jazz-style classcial pieces. Today, he is best known for the third part of his "Grand Canyon Suite". "On the Trail", was used as a musical signature tune for Philip Morris cigarettes for many years.
