rihanna reveal track from star trek beyond

Rihanna's teaser for new song from 'Star Trek Beyond' - Watch!

Rihanna has released a teaser for 'Sledgehammer', her new single from the soundtrack to Star Trek Beyond.

"#SLEDGEHAMMER @StarTrekMovie fans, be up tomorrow by 8am EST for a special premiere!" she wrote on Twitter, suggesting the single and perhaps its video will premiere on Monday (June 27) at 8am EST (1pm GMT).

News of Rihanna's Star Trek Beyond single broke on Friday (June 24) when Twitter account @PopCrave spotted a promo for the track on iTunes and shared a screen-grab with followers.

The film itself hits cinema screens on July 22. Idris Elba plays the main villain in the movie, joining franchise regulars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg, who has co-written its script.

Meanwhile, Rihanna is currently on the UK leg of her 'Anti World Tour' tonight, with stadium dates in London and Coventry completed, and stadium dates in Glasgow and Manchester remaining.

During her show in Dublin earlier this week, Rihanna was moved to tears as she performed on stage. She told the crowd later in their performance: "I only have ever in my life heard an audience of people scream so loud that they sound like one voice and that only happens in Ireland, in Dublin. Thank you so much."

led zeppelin not quilty for stairway to heaven

Led Zeppelin Found Not Guilty of Stealing "Stairway to Heaven" Guitar Passage

The jury is in and they say that Led Zeppelin did not steal the opening guitar passage of Stairway to Heaven from the group Spirit.

The three surviving members of the band testified over the last week about whether they had heard the Spirit song Taurus which has a guitar passage that holds some similarities to Stairway.

The writer of the Spirit song, Randy California (born Randy Wolfe) was aware of the similarity but never pursued it in court. Led Zeppelin had opened for Spirit in late-1968 where, there was a belief, they could have heard Taurus being performed.

It wasn't until after California's death that the executor of his estate, Michael Skidmore, decided to move forward with a plagiarism case. At stake was millions of dollars in songwriting royalties in the past and the future.

Prior to the commencement of the trial, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, who were co-writers on the song, received a number of favorable rulings, including only allowing versions of Taurus that had been filed with the copyright office in 1967 to be allowed into evidence, all testimony of other alleged plagiarism by the band was barred and there would be no testimony on the members drinking or drug habits or wealth.

After a week of testimony, the jury of eight deliberated for less than a day before returning a verdict that confirmed the copyright ownership of Taurus, that the members of Zeppelin had most likely previously heard the song, but that there was no substantial similarity between the two songs. Reports from the courtroom said that they asked to listen to the two songs one last time while deliberating, producing their verdict within a half hour.

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant issued a statement, saying "We are grateful for the jury's conscientious service and pleased that it has ruled in our favor, putting to rest questions about the origins of 'Stairway to Heaven' and confirming what we have known for 45 years. We appreciate our fans' support, and look forward to putting this legal matter behind us."

Warner Music, who was also included in the suit, said "At Warner Music Group, supporting our artists and protecting their creative freedom is paramount. We are pleased that the jury found in favor of Led Zeppelin, re-affirming the true origins of 'Stairway to Heaven.' Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest bands in history, and Jimmy Page and Robert Plant are peerless songwriters who created many of rock's most influential and enduring songs."

Lawyers for the estate of California have said that they will appeal.

ralph stanley died at 89

Ralph Stanley, bluegrass pioneer, dies aged 89
 by MICHAEL BONNER

Ralph Stanley, the pioneer of bluegrass and Appalachian music, has died aged 89.

TThe news was confirmed on Facebook by his grandson, Nathan, who wrote, “My papaw, my dad, and the greatest man in the world, Dr. Ralph Stanley has went home to be with Jesus just a few minutes ago. He went peacefully in his sleep due to a long, horrible battle with Skin Cancer… My Papaw was loved by millions of fans from all around the world, and he loved all of you.”

Stanley was born in Stratton, Virginia on February 25, 1927. His first public performance was in church, aged 11 years old. He began performing with his older brother Carter as the Stanley Brothers, securing a daily slot on the radio station WNVA. The show’s sponsors, the Clinch Valley Insurance Company, inspired the name of the brothers band, The Clinch Mountain Boys.

They signed to Columbia in 1948, recording songs including “The White Dove“, “The Lonesome River” and “The Fields Have Turned Brown” for the label.

They moved to Mercury in 1953, recording “I’m Lonesome Without You” and “Memories Of Mother”, which proved to be among their most enduring songs.

After Carter died in December 1966, Stanley continued performing with the Clinch Mountain Boys as a solo artist.

In 2000, Stanley’s music was featured on the soundtrack for the Coen Brothers film, O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

In 2012, Stanley appeared on the soundtrack of Nick Cave‘s film Lawless, including a version of the Velvet Underground‘s “White Light White Heat”.

Speaking to Uncut, Nick Cave recalled recording with Stanley.

“Getting him on board was hilarious,” said Cave. “He came back with a version of ‘White Light White Heat‘, it was in 3/ 4. It was like a swing thing and we were going to drop it on to the music. But that was in 4/4. So I’m saying, look, could you do this in 4/4? We’re Skyping Ralph… so all he can see is me and Warren [Ellis]’s faces stuck in the computer screen. So [producer] Hal Wilner is there, the person who has got the godfather of bluegrass music to sing these songs. And we’re going, ‘It’s kind of ONE-two-three-four-ONE.’ And Ralph is looking at the screen with this kind of… utter disdain.

“What he ended up doing was very much his own thing,” continued Cave. “Hal came back with his stuff, which was amazing. His versions were just so strange and so beautiful, it was a real coup. Hal brought Lou Reed in who was working up the road because Hal was producing the Lulu album. He came into the studio and he was visibly moved by Ralph’s version of ‘White Light White Heat’.”

black sabbath to play final gig at birmingham

Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns (1941 - 2016)

 by CHRIS LLOYD

Wayne Jackson, trumpet player for the Memphis Horns, died on Tuesday night from congestive heart failure at the age of 74.

Jackson had been hospitalized but released on June 7. According to his wife, Amy Jackson, he took a turn for the worse on Monday night. "He led an incredible life and he left an amazing music legacy."

Wayne originally played guitar, appearing in talent shows at an early age in his hometown of West Memphis, AK. When he was 11, his mother gave him a trumpet which he mastered, playing throughout his schooling.

In the early 60's, he joined the Mar-Keys and appeared on their hit Last Night (1961 / #3) which sent him across the country touring with the likes of Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn and Packy Axton.

Jackson began working with other Stax artists and, one day, he met tenor saxophone player Andrew Love who had been working at Hi Records. The two, along with four others, became the Memphis Horns, backing virtually every Stax artist of the time including Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Eddie Floyd and Rufus Thomas.

wayne jackson and andrew love Eventually the sextet became just the duo of Jackson and Love who not only worked at Stax but throughout the south including Hi and American Studios, playing for artists on other labels like Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett.

They toured Europe in 1967 with the Stax/Volt Review and backed Otis Redding on his immortal set at Monterey but their relationship with Stax came to an end two years later when the label tried to block them from working with any other label. It was probably the best move of their career as the Memphis Horns went on to back everyone from Elvis to U2 over the next two decades.

Andrew was forced to retire in 2004 after developing Alzheimer's disease but Wayne kept the legacy going. The duo was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2008, four years before Love's death.
