the stone roses release singles all for one

The Stone Roses return with new single 'All For One' - Listen!

The Stone Roses have revealed their new single 'All For One'. Listen to the band's first new material in two decades below.

Premiered on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show this evening (12 May), the DJ revealed that the song was recorded at Church Studios in London and produced by Paul Epworth.

Rumours about The Stone Roses returning with new music have circulated for years, with the band first reforming for a series of gigs in 2012. Four years later and the group will play a series of gigs and festival dates this summer, only this time there is new material to factor into the setlist.

Earlier this week a series of mysterious lemon adverts were displayed on billboards around the band's hometown of Manchester. The iconic logo appeared on digital advertising boards around Manchester city centre on Tuesday morning (May 10) echoing a tactic first employed last year when the band announced a run of live gigs.

News that the band were holed up in London and working on their third studio album was confirmed by NME earlier this year.

Recent tabloid reports claimed that the group's third album would arrive this summer to coincide with their upcoming live dates, which include four headline shows at Manchester's Etihad Stadium.

In addition to their Manchester headline shows, The Stone Roses have gigs lined up in Dublin, New York and Japan, as well as a headline slot at T In The Park.

See the Stone Roses' current live schedule in full below.

Manchester, Etihad Stadium (June 15, 17, 18, 19)
New York, Madison Square Garden (June 30)
T In The Park (July 8)
Dublin, Marlay Park (July 9)

red hot chilli peppers reveal new track and album

Loverboy Return With New Song ‘Hurtin’ - Listen!
 by PAUL CASHMERE

Loverboy have released a brand new song ‘Hurtin’ ahead of upcoming live dates with Rick Springfield.

According to Loverboy’s Paul Dean the origins of the song came originally from a concept by Pat Benatar band member Mick Mahan and his songwriting partner Gregg Montane intended to be the theme for a national football broadcast.

When that didn’t happen, Mike Reno and Paul Dean made it their own.

“I took what they gave him, changed it up a bit, and came up with a melody and a couple of hooks,” said Dean. “The idea was to create an anthem for the home crowd to sing about putting a ‘hurtin’ ” on the other team.”

Her politically charged lyrics have been causing tensions with neighbouring Russia, who were the bookmakers favourite to win.
Her haunting rendition of the ballad 1944, a song about Joseph Stalin’s mass deportation in 1944 of entire ethnic Tatar population from Crimea, has been understood to parallel Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.

former yes members form arw

Former Yes Members Jon Anderson, Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin Form ARW

Three former members of Yes, Jon Anderson, Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin, have formed the new group Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman (ARW).

The three artists have not played together in 26 years, since 1990's Union Tour by Yes. Anderson was an original member of the band when it formed in 1968 and was a member until 1980, again from 1982 to 1988 and, finally, from 1990 to 2008. Wakeman joined Yes in 1971 and had five stints with the band, 1971 to 1974, 1976 to 1980, 1990 to 1992, 1995 to 1996 and 2002 to 2004. Rabin was with them from 1982 to 1994.

The aim of the band will be to restore the standard of excellence in performance that they established with their 1990 shows, which saw Yes members past and present come together for the first (and only) time of the legendary band's career.

Anderson said, "To be able to sing and perform with Rick and Trevor at this time in my life is a treasure beyond words. I'm so excited to create new music and revisit some of the classic work we created many years ago, it's going to be a musical adventure on so many new levels."

Wakeman added "Trevor and I have wanted to play Yes music together since the Union Tour and as for so many of us, there is no Yes music without Jon. The 'Holy Trinity of Yes' is for me, very much a dream come true."

alice cooper reunion with original band

Alice Cooper Reunites Original Band For New Album
 by PAUL CASHMERE

Alice Cooper is planning on putting the old band back together to record their first album in 43 years.

Alice Cooper was a band until the 1973 ‘Muscle Of Love’ album after which Alice continued the name as a solo act from 1975’s ‘Welcome To My Nightmare’ and on.

In moving forward Cooper says he wants to go back to creating the greatness of ‘Killer’ when Alice Cooper was a band. “I’ve always liked the idea that Alice Cooper has always been a Detroit rock band. We’ve always been a hard rock band, guitar rock, and I’ll never give that up,” Cooper told The Weekender. “But every once in awhile, though, there’s just a flavor of what album do we want to go to here to give it that flavor. And it seems to be going toward the ‘Killer’ album. And I kind of go, that album, let’s revisit the sound of that album and what we were kind of thinking. You can never go back and totally recapture it, but you can certainly look at the elements that made that album work the way it did.”

Original members Michael Bruce (guitar), Dennis Dunaway (bass) and Neal Smith (drums) are in for the project. Lead guitarist Glen Buxton died in 1997 from pneumonia at age 49.

Work on a new Alice Cooper Band album has begun “I wrote three or four songs with Neil Smith and Mike Bruce,” Cooper said. “And so we worked together in Phoenix for about two weeks just writing songs and demoing songs. And you never know which ones are going to make the album, but I said let’s do that.

“Dennis Dunaway wrote two or three things,” Alice told The Weekender. “We haven’t seen those yet, but I know Dennis has always written great stuff. It’s fun to go back and work with guys you haven’t worked with in awhile. It’s not trying to recapture your youth. It’s trying to recapture a sound. And it’s a very elusive sound.”

The Alice Cooper Band released their first album ‘Pretties For You’ in 1969. They released seven albums to 1973 including ‘Easy Action’ (1970), ‘Love It To Death’ (1971), ‘Killer’ (1971), ‘Schools Out’ (1972), Billion Dollar Babies’ (1973) and ‘Muscle of Love’ 1973.

julius la rosa died at 86

Julius La Rosa (1930 - 2016)

Julius La Rosa, who scored ten top 40 hits between 1953 and 1958, died of natural causes at his home in Crivitz, WI on Thursday at the age of 86.

La Rosa joined the navy at 17 and started singing on the side with the Navy choir and at bars when he could find the work. Friends in the service promoted La Rosa to Arthur Godrey, who was a member of the Navy Reserve along with being a major radio and early television star. Godrey liked what he heard and hired La Rosa for his radio program. Julius started on Godrey's radio show in November 1951 and his TV program a week later where he became a regular.

In 1952, La Rosa was the first artist signed to the newly formed Cadence Records which was formed by Godfrey's bandleader, Archie Bleyer. The company's first single was Julius' Anywhere I Wander from the recent popular movie Hans Christian Anderson, which became a major success, going to number 4 nationally.

With his new popularity, La Rosa hired a manager, something that Godfrey discouraged his show's performers from doing as he had his staff controlling their careers. On Godrey's radio show of October 19, 1953, Julius performed his last song which Godrey followed with "that was Julie's swan song with us."

The firing ended up being the beginning of Godrey's downfall in show business.

While La Rosa felt humiliated by the blind side firing by Godfrey, it didn't hurt his career. He was almost immediately signed by Ed Sullivan for his Talk of the Town series and his next single, Eh Cumpari, became the biggest of his career, going to number 2.  He also became the host of The Julius La Rosa Show, a summer replacement program for Perry Como in 1955 which turned into a regular program until 1957. It was while working with Como that he met the singer's secretary, Rosemary Meyer, whom he was still married when he died.

La Rosa hit again just as Rock and Roll was starting to gain force with Domani (Tomorrow) (1955 / #13) and followed with Suddenly There's a Valley (1955 / #20) and Lipstick and Candy and Rubbersole Shoes (1956 / #16).

As rock grew more popular, the vocalist of the 40's and early-50's started to fall off the charts with La Rosa's last charting record being Torero (1958 / #21).

From the late-50's on, La Rosa remained a popular guest on variety and talk shows and, in 1980, joined the soap opera Another World in a role that won him an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Later in his career, he back a DJ at WNEW in New York while continuing to occasionally record and perform live.
