suede revealed no tomorrow video

Suede's retro video for new track 'No Tomorrow' - Watch!

Suede have shared a new video for 'No Tomorrow', the latest track revealed from their upcoming album 'Night Thoughts'.

The song follows other new songs recently unveiled, 'Outsiders' and 'Like Kids'. Watch its retro-leaning video below.

The LP, which will feature a full string section, was produced by the band's long-time collaborator Ed Buller and was recorded in London and Brussels. It will be released this week (January 22).

Frontman Brett Anderson has said of the album: "We wanted to make the kind of album you’re not supposed to make in 2015. The kind you listen to in order and all the way to the end. 'Night Thoughts' is about those moments when you wake at 4am with the walls of your life caving in. It’s an album about fear and love and loss. The film we have made mirrors those themes to create an interlocking suite of songs and images about the drama of the everyday."

Alongside the release of their new album, Suede have also announced three UK and Ireland dates in February, including a London show as part of the NME Awards Shows with Austin, Texas.

The band will also be part of the NME Award Tour 2016, playing a headline show on February 12 at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, North London.

NME’s most recent recipients of the Godlike Genius award will play a special gig as part of the showcase, beginning with their critically acclaimed ‘Night Thoughts’ live set, which sees the band perform the full album in front of a projection of the accompanying feature film. They will follow this with a second set of classics, fan favourites and rarities.

dale buffin griffin died at 67

Dale “Buffin” Griffin (1948–2016)

WITH GLAM ROCK FLAGS already at half mast, it’s a double blow to learn of the passing of Mott The Hoople drummer Dale “Buffin” Griffin (pictured above, middle-top).

A staple on Herefordshire’s early rock scene, Griffin came to the embryonic Mott from The Soulents, who also featured future Mott bassist Pete Overend Watts. With guitarist Mick Ralphs and keyboard player Verden Allen in the mix and under the wing of A&R maverick Guy Stevens, the group gained a singer – Ian Hunter – a name nicked from a Willard Manus novel and a reputation amongst the cognoscenti for rough-hewn romanticism and locomotive boogie.

It was too specialised for the pop mainstream, and it took the intervention of superfan David Bowie – himself not long risen from obscurity – to establish their chart credentials when he gave them the anthemic All The Young Dudes, a Number 3 UK single in 1972. More hits followed in the shape of All The Way From Memphis and Roll Away The Stone, making an impact on the coming generation of no-nonsense rockers – including The Clash’s Mick Jones.

After Mott, Griffin went on to make an incalculable additional contribution to British music culture, producing BBC radio sessions, including many landmark John Peel recordings, including Nirvana’s 1990 session that brought forth Molly’s Lips and Son Of A Gun.

Griffin was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2006, aged 58, but was involved in Mott The Hoople’s rapturously received 2009 reformation, playing the encores with the help of The Pretenders’ Martin Chambers.

He was much loved by fans, and Mott’s support for their comrade reflected well on them.

gary loizzo died at 70

Gary Loizzo, Lead Singer of the American Breed, Studio Owner (1945 - 2016)

Gary Loizzo, the lead singer and guitarist for the American Breed and a very successful producer and studio owner, has died after a two-and-a-half year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 70.

The Shadows of Knight posted the following on their Facebook page on Sunday afternoon:

Im deeply saddened by the news that my longtime friend Gary Loizzo of the American Breed has passed away...we've lost another great one...Gary was a good friend, a great singer...and I worked with him in the studio as an engineer and a producer on many projects..his work with Styx is legendary...he will truly be missed and remembered fondly...Bend Me Shape Me any way you want me will live on in our hearts.
Todd Sucherman, drummer for Styx with whom Loizzo had worked extensively, said:
Gary Loizzo, RIP my dear friend. This is a hard one to write as it’s one of our own. Gary Loizzo has been our front of house engineer since I joined the band 20 years ago but before that he was the (Grammy nominated) recording engineer on many of the Styx records of the 70s and 80s (and 90s and 00s.) And before that he was the lead singer of The American Breed, most famous for the song “Bend Me, Shape Me.” He was a man of exceptional taste, wonderful musicianship, eagle sharp ears, but most of all he was a shining example as how to conduct yourself as a man, a professional, a husband and father. In 20 years I never saw him lose his cool or raise his voice to anyone, and believe me, the road can be frustrating at times. He just made everyone feel good. He was a magical person and I know everyone in our organization feels they are a better human being having had the privilege to wok along his side.

Can we please cure cancer? Enough already.

Gary stopped touring with us in early summer 2015. When we played Chicago on September 5th, Gary and his amazing wife, Diane and the whole family came out to the gig for a party before show time. We had worked up “Bend Me Shape Me” and brought him on stage to sing it mid set. The large screen behind us displayed an image of Gary from the late 60s as he came out on stage with the energy of a teenager, all smiles, and sang the hell out of his hit song in front of 20,000 people in his home town. What a send off my dear, dear friend! I love you, and you will continue to be an inspiration and a shining example of how to live life.
Loizzo was one of the founding members of The American Breed (originally known as Gary & the Knight Lites) in Cicero, IL. The group played around the Chicago album until, during a snowstorm in January 1967, Mercury Records VP Kenny Myers was stranded at a Universal Recording in Chicago where he met with producer Bill Traut who had worked with the American Breed on their initial recordings. Myers signed them to the new subsidiary Acta where they released their first single, I Don't Think You Know Me, written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin.

The American Breed with Loizzo on lead hit the charts the first time in early 1967 with Step Out of Your Mind (1967 / #24) but it was two singles later that they hit it big with Bend Me, Shape Me (1967 / #5 U.S. / #24 U.K.). Overall, the band charted five singles on the Billboard Hot 100.

When the band's singles stopped charting, members began to break off even though Loizzo tried to keep them going into 1970.

Loizzo moved forward in business by opening his own Chicago studio, Pumpkin, where he produced many local artists. Over the years, he worked with REO Speedwagon, Bad Company, Slash, Survivor and a number of Styx and Dennis DeYoung albums. As mentioned above, he was also Styx sound engineer for over twenty years.

Loizzo and the other original members of the American Breed also reunited to record an album in 1986. They continued to reform over the ensuing years for special events around the Chicago area.

Among Loizzo's engineering and production credits:
  • You Can Tune a Piano But You Can't Tune a Fish - REO Speedwagon (engineer)
  • Cornerstone - Styx (engineer)
  • Premonition - Survivor (engineer, producer)
  • Paradise Theatre - Styx (engineer)
  • Kilroy Was Here - Styx (engineer)
  • Caught in the Act - Styx (engineer)
  • Desert Moon - Dennis DeYoung (engineer, vocals)
  • Return to Paradise - Styx (engineer)
  • Brave New World - Styx (engineer)

“It’s Your World Now”

Written by Glenn Frey and Jack Tempchin

From the Eagles’ Long Road Out of Eden album

A perfect day, the sun is sinkin’ low
As evening falls, the gentle breezes blow
The time we shared went by so fast
Just like a dream, we knew it couldn’t last
But I’d do it all again
If I could, somehow
But I must be leavin’ soon
It’s your world now

It’s your world now
My race is run
I’m moving on
Like the setting sun
No sad goodbyes
No tears allowed
You’ll be alright
It’s your world now

Even when we are apart
You’ll always be in my heart
When dark clouds appear in the sky
Remember true love never dies

But first a kiss, one glass of wine
Just one more dance while there’s still time
My one last wish: someday, you’ll see
How hard I tried and how much you meant to me

It’s your world now
Use well your time
Be part of something good
Leave something good behind
The curtain falls
I take my bow
That’s how it’s meant to be
It’s your world now
It’s your world now
It’s your world now
Group member Don Henley issued his own statement:
He was like a brother to me; we were family, and like most families, there was some dysfunction. But, the bond we forged 45 years ago was never broken, even during the 14 years that the Eagles were dissolved. We were two young men who made the pilgrimage to Los Angeles with the same dream: to make our mark in the music industry -- and with perseverance, a deep love of music, our alliance with other great musicians and our manager, Irving Azoff, we built something that has lasted longer than anyone could have dreamed. But, Glenn was the one who started it all. He was the spark plug, the man with the plan. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music and a work ethic that wouldn't quit. He was funny, bullheaded, mercurial, generous, deeply talented and driven. He loved is wife and kids more than anything. We are all in a state of shock, disbelief and profound sorrow. We brought our two-year 'History of the Eagles Tour' to a triumphant close at the end of July and now he is gone. I'm not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet. It will be very strange going forward in a world without him in it. But, I will be grateful, every day, that he was in my life. Rest in peace, my brother. You did what you set out to do, and then some.
Born in Detroit, MI, he became active in the city's rock scene as a teenager playing in groups such as The Four of Us, the Mushrooms and the Heavy Metal Kids. While with the Mushrooms, he met and worked with Bob Seger and Frey's first professional recording was playing acoustic guitar and singing background vocals on his 1968 hit Ramblin' Gamblin' Man.

In the late-60's, Glenn moved to Californian where he was introduced to J.D. Souther and the two formed the group Longbranch Pennywhistle, recording one album. It was during this same time that Frey met drummer Don Henley and the two, along with Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon, backed up Linda Ronstadt for a single show. Henley and Frey stayed in touch with Ronstadt and continued in her band for her 1971 tour.

At the end of the tour, the four who had originally backed Ronstadt formed the Eagles and their first, self-titled, album established them as a major force in rock with the hits Take It Easy (1972 / #12), Witchy Woman (1972 / #9) and Peaceful Easy Feeling (1972 / #2).

Although they only recorded six studio albums during their first go around, they established themselves as one of the great artists of the rock era, but internal strife was ripping them apart. It all came to a head on July 31, 1980 at a benefit concert where Frey and Don Felder were at such odds that they spent much of the show expressing the beating they were going to give each other when they were done performing. Frey ended up quitting the group and, once they delivered their contractual obligation Live album to Elektra, the Eagles were done.

Frey went on to a successful solo career in the 80's, scoring with The Heat is On (1984 / #2), You Belong to the City (1985 / #2), Smuggler's Blues (1985 / #12) and many more. He also branched out into acting with roles on Miami Vice, Wiseguy, Nash Bridges and other shows along with films like Jerry Maguire.

In 1994, Frey, Henley, Joe Walsh, Felder and Timothy B. Schmit reformed the Eagles, touring and producing the album Hell Freezes Over. They continued to play together periodically over the next few years and released both compilations and live albums but they would finally get back to the studio for a full new set in 2007 for the album Long Road Out of Eden. The album went to number 1 showing that the fans were still with the group both in rock and country, where the album also had a long chart run.

In 2013, Frey participated in the documentary The History of the Eagles along with the long world tour of the same name. His last solo album was 2012's After Hours.
