keith richards released trouble

Keith Richards' New Solo Song "Trouble" - Listen!

 by PAUL CASHMERE

The Rolling Stones ‘Zipcode’ tour is over and Keith Richards has immediately switched to solo mode with a brand new song for us all to hear.

‘Trouble’ is the first taste of solo Keith’s ‘Crosseyed Heart’ album and sounds exactly as you would expect solo Keith to sound. Decades on from his last album, Keith’s third solo album sounds more like the gap is a two years, not two decades.

Keith Richards has only ever released two solo albums ‘Talk Is Cheap’ in 1988 and ‘Main Offender’ in 1992. ‘Crosseyed Heart’ uses mainly the same players as 23 years ago.

“I had a ball making this new record and working with Steve Jordan and Waddy Wachtel again,” Keith says. “There’s nothing like walking into a studio and having absolutely no idea what you’re going to come out with on the other end. If you’re looking for ‘Trouble,’ you’ve come to the right place.”

Keith co-wrote most of the tracks with co-producer Jordan. There is also a duet with Norah Jones titled ‘Illusion’ on the upcoming album.

don henley to release first solo album in 15 years

Don Henley first solo album in 15 years

Don Henley will release CASS COUNTY, his fifth studio album, and first solo album in 15 years, on September 25, 2015.

Named for the northeastern Texas county in which Henley was raised, CASS COUNTY will be available as a 12-song standard CD and digital album, as well as a 16-track deluxe version, which will be available on CD, digitally, and a double disc, 180 gram Vinyl LP.

Don Henley will launch a solo tour in October 2015 that will include concerts in Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Durham, NC; Los Angeles, CA; Nashville, TN; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Port Chester, NY; San Francisco, CA; Santa Barbara, CA; Toronto, ON and Washington, D.C. Singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin will open on all the dates.

Each ticket ordered for any of the tour dates will receive a CASS COUNTY deluxe CD. Ticket buyers will receive an email notification to confirm the delivery details for their album. Full tour details will be announced shortly.

CASS COUNTY was produced by Don Henley and Stan Lynch, who also co-wrote 11 of the songs on the album, and represents both Henley's roots and the next stop on his creative journey. 'I was born and raised in Texas. I'm a Southerner and a Texan. So this is a natural progression for me. It's who I am and where I come from,' says Don Henley.

Recorded primarily in Nashville, Tennessee, and Dallas, Texas, the album includes guest appearances from Merle Haggard, Miranda Lambert, Mick Jagger, Martina McBride, Jamey Johnson, Alison Krauss, Vince Gill and Dolly Parton. When asked about making the album, Henley exclaimed, 'I can truthfully say, I enjoyed making this record more than any record I've made in my career because of the people who participated. John Sebastian was dead right in 1965 or 1966 when he wrote that song 'Nashville Cats.' It's still true all these years later. There are some amazing musicians here.'

rickie lee jones released new video

Rickie Lee Jones Steps Out With New Video - Watch!

LIVING ACROSS FROM THE street in New Orleans where Tennessee Williams set A Streetcar Named Desire is bound to get under the skin.

It certainly has for Rickie Lee Jones, who has seen her geographical connection with the play infuse her new album The Other Side Of Desire – and MOJO has a taster in the form of an exclusive premiere of the video for Jimmy Choos, the record’s opening track.

“On this side, things are a little slower, friendlier, more old-fashioned than the rest of the world,” says Jones of her New Orleans neighbourhood. “A little poorer perhaps, and a bit more dangerous than it ought to be, but I love it here.”

Ten years in the making, a lot of that spirit had made it onto The Other Side Of Desire according to MOJO’s Fred Dellar, who reviews the album in the latest MOJO (August 15 / #261) explaining “there are some beauties here, songs that catch the ear and remain in the mind.”

Jimmy Choos certainly fits into that mould, capturing the city’s colourful side, but also offering a vivid glimpse of its darker streak. Watch the video now.

dave somerville died at 81

Dave Somerville of the Diamonds (1933 - 2015)

Dave Somerville, the original lead singer for the Canadian group the Diamonds, died from cancer in Santa Barbara, CA on Tuesday at the age of 81.

Somerville was born in Guelph, Ontario to a musical family and grew up in Rockwood. At the age of 14, his family moved to Toronto where he, at first, studied architecture and building construction before changing his courses to a radio concentration.

At the age of 19, he became an engineer at the CBC while, at the same time, studying voice at the University of Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music. While at the CBC, he met three other men who were interested in forming a singing group and the Diamonds were born.

The group practiced for 18 months, playing occasional shows around Toronto, before going to New York where they appeared on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts. They won the program which led to a guest spot on the show and a contract with Coral Records. They recorded four songs for the label but not were a hit.

They next auditioned for Dr. Bill Randle, a DJ in Cleveland who had ins in the industry and, through his contacts, they were signed to Mercury Records. Their first single for the label, Why Do Fools Fall in Love? went to number 12 on the Billboard and 2 on the Cashbox charts.

The followup, Church Bells May Ring, went to 14 but it was in early 1957 that their career really took off with their record Little Darlin'. The record was a huge hit, going to number 2 in Billboard on both the Pop and R&B charts and number 3 in the U.K., establishing them as a major group.

The Diamonds became popular guests on many of the variety shows of the day and their constant exposure led to six more top twenty hits including Silhouettes (1957 / #10) and The Stroll (1957 / #4).

Somerville left the group in 1961, changing his professional name to David Troy and singing folk music until 1967. He also studied acting under Leonard Nimoy and made a number of appearances including an episode of the original Star Trek. He later signed with the William Morris Agency who repped him as a voice over artist for hundreds of commercials.

In 1967, he joined the Four Preps and, on the side, started a comedy act with Bruce Belland called Belland & Somerville. The two also wrote the song The Troublemaker which was recorded by Willie Nelson.

During the 70's, Somerville formed the group WW Fancy with Keith Barbour (Echo Park) and Gail Jensen and, later, sang with the Diamonds and, once again, The Four Preps. He also wrote a song called The (Ballad) of the Unknown Stuntman which inspired Glen Larson, an original member of the Four Preps, to develop the show The Fall Guy. A reworked version of Somerville's song was used as the theme.

Finally, in the 90's, he turned to children's music, recording the album The Cosmic Adventures of Diamond Dave.

As a member of the Diamonds, he is a member of the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, The Doo Wop Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

The Diamonds top twenty hits:

  • Why Do Fools Fall in Love? (1956 / #12)
  • The Church Bells May Ring (1956 / #14)
  • Little Darlin' (1957 / #2 Pop / #2 R&B / #3 U.K.)
  • Words of Love (1957 / #13 Pop / #12 R&B)
  • Zip Zip (1957 / #16 Pop / #12 R&B)
  • Silhouettes (1957 / #10 Pop / #6 R&B)
  • The Stroll (1957 / #4 Pop / #5 R&B)
  • Kathy-O (1958 / #16)
  • She Say (Oom Dooby Doom) (1959 / #18)
