moving pictures played first new songs in 30 years

Moving Pictures Perform First New Songs In 30 Years - Listen!

 by PAUL CASHMERE

Moving Pictures debuted their first new music in 30 years at the Sydney Opera House on Friday night (October 3, 2014).

The new songs may or may not be on a third Moving Pictures album at some time in the future. “Three new songs in the set, heaps in the pipeline”, singer and founder Alex Smith tells Noise11.com. “A new album is kinda a “how long is a piece of string” kinda question. At the moment more questions than answers”.

The now London based Alex Smith is back in Australia with the reformed Moving Pictures to play at the WSFM & iHeartRadio Pure Gold show on October 25 in Sydney to mark the 90th anniversary of the Hordern Pavilion.

Moving Pictures also scheduled in two shows for the Sydney Opera House on October 3rd and October 4th.

Kate Bush concludes live shows, suggesting it will be "a while" before she plays again

Kate Bush concluded her run of sold-out 'Before The Dawn' shows at Hammersmith Apollo last night (October 1), with speculation that it will be "a while" before she plays live again.

The singer played a total of 22 shows at the venue between August 26 and October 1, combining elaborate theatrical devices and stage sets with tracks from throughout her career and an intricate section entitled 'The Ninth Wave', detailing Bush's song cycle about a woman stranded at sea.

As reported by BBC News, Bush addressed the audience at the end of the show, saying "We're all really sad as it's the last night. I'm going to miss everyone so much."

Audience members have also reported that the singer then briefly nodded to speculation regarding the possibility of future live shows, saying "This is our last night… for a while anyway".

Bush also thanked members of the cast, including performer Charlotte Williams, who played a wooden puppet who comes to life. Bush described Williams as "our secret weapon", while her son Bertie McIntosh was labelled "wonderful".

In the audience on the final night were a host of celebrities including Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour, singer Grace Jones, comedian Noel Fielding and TV host Graham Norton.

78,000 tickets were sold for the run of shows, with tickets selling out in 15 minutes. The shows were the singer's first live dates for 35 years.

lulu will tour uk in 2015

Lulu to Tour U.K. For First Time in a Decade

 by PAUL CASHMERE

The iconic Lulu will embark on her first solo UK tour in over ten years, when she plays a series of live dates in May 2015.

The tour will coincide with a brand new album, her first since 2005. The Grammy-nominated songwriter is currently writing and recording the album which will showcase a return to her soulful roots, being both the music which initially inspired her to perform and her enduring passion.

This new tour will give Lulu the chance to reconnect, not only with the music she loves, but also with fans who haven't seen her tour solo in the UK since 2004. Over the last decade, the Scottish legend has played hugely successful club dates in the US and UK, including a sold-out gig at B.B. King's in New York City, toured with Jools Holland and headlined the sold-out 'Here Come The Girls' tours. Earlier this year she was chosen to perform at the Closing Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Lulu said "I've always loved doing live gigs. After performing at the legendary BB King's NYC last year and now starting to record the album, I'm re-invigorated and ready to get back on the road again. Even before I ever had a hit record I was doing three or four live gigs each week. And recently I've had a renewed sense of purpose. I just feel a compulsion to make this new record and, because of that, the songs are just pouring out.

"My family always said I came into this world singing, and I'd be happy to go out of this world singing, but I have a lot more to say before that happens!"

Further details on Lulu's new album will follow.

lynsey de paul died at 64

Passings: British Pop Star Lynsey De Paul (1948 - 2014)

Lynsey De Paul, the British pop singer who had a global hit in 1972 with Sugar Me, has died suddenly at the age of 64.

Lynsey was rushed to hospital in London after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

Lynsey De Paul’s Sugar Me was a number 4 hit in Australia and reached number 5 in the UK. She also had six other hit songs in the UK, Getting A Drag (1972 / #18), Won’t Somebody Dance With Me (1973 / #14), Ooh I Do (1973 / #25), No Honestly (1974 / #7), My Man And Me (1975 / #40) and Rock Bottom (1977 / #19). Rock Bottom was the UK submission for the Eurovision Song Contest of 1977.

Lynsey also had multiple hits in Denmark, The Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium, Austria and Sweden; however, she was never able to break through in the U.S.

De Paul was also a songwriter. Jack Wild (H.R. Puffinstuff) recorded three of her songs. Lynsey was also the first female to be awarded an Ivor Novello Award.

Lynsey’s relationships would have made her paparazzi fodder today but in her day she dated Ringo Starr, Sean Connery, Bernie Taupin and Dudley Moore with little press exposure. She never married.

In recent years Lynsey hosted her own show on Sky UK, Lynsey’s Love Songs.
