spandau ballet reveal documentary film

Spandau Ballet reveal first documentary clip - Watch!

SOUL BOYS OF THE WESTERN WORLD will be launching in cinemas across the UK & Ireland with a special one-off live satellite premiere screening event on Tuesday 30 September, and will then go on general release from 3 October.

After the European premiere screening of the film, Spandau Ballet will be reunited on stage in the UK for the first time since 2010 and will answer questions with director, George Hencken about the film which will be hosted by Lauren Laverne, before ending the evening performing some of their anthems which were a soundtrack to a generation. This unique event will be beamed by satellite to 100's of cinemas across the UK and Eire as the band return to the Royal Albert Hall for the first time since the week True was released in April 1983.

SOUL BOYS OF THE WESTERN WORLD is a journey through the 1980s and beyond; the story of a band, an era and how one small gathering of outsiders in London shaped the entire world's view of music and fashion. The film is not only a fascinating, often hard-hitting social and cultural document of the time, but a brutally honest story of how friendships can be won, lost and ultimately regained.

The film received its World Premiere in Competition at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas in March, to rave reviews. Long-time Julien Temple collaborator Hencken won acclaim for her honest and uplifting archive-only feature documentary, which combines newsreel footage with never-before-seen video from the band's personal archives, as well as candid interviews with all five band members.

Spandau Ballet are one of Britain's great iconic bands having sold over 25 million records, scored numerous multi-platinum albums and amassed 23 hit singles across the globe since their humble beginnings as a group of friends with dreams of stardom in the late 1970s. It wasn't long before they became fully fledged members of the iconic Blitz Club scene and established themselves as one of the super-groups of the 80s. After two decades apart, the band reformed in 2009, embarking on a sold-out tour. SOUL BOYS OF THE WESTERN WORLD marks the first time their story has been documented on film.

A New album collection including three new songs produced by legendary record producer Trevor Horn 'The Story-The Very Best Of Spandau Ballet' is released on 13 October. A soundtrack album to accompany the film will also be released.

u2 release new album for free

U2 release new album for free

U2 have released their new album Songs Of Innocence and are giving it away for free.

The band announced the release at Apple's iPhone 6 launch in California, where they also performed its first single, "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)". The album will be available through Apple alone until October 13. Scroll down for a full tracklisting.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about the surprise release, Bono commented: "We wanted to make a very personal album. Let's try to figure out why we wanted to be in a band, the relationships around the band, our friendships, our lovers, our family. The whole album is first journeys — first journeys geographically, spiritually, sexually. And that's hard. But we went there."

It is the band's first album since 2009's No Line On The Horizon and was recorded with producers Danger Mouse, Flood, Paul Epworth and Ryan Tedder. It features a tribute to The Clash, "This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now", as well as "Iris (Hold Me Close)", a song about Bono's mother, who died when he was 14, while "Raised By Wolves" is about a car bombing in Dublin.

Bono has said of the record: "It has a lyrical cohesion that I think is unique amongst U2 albums. I don't want it to be a concept album, but the songs come from a place. Edge laughed and said this is our Quadrophenia. We could be so lucky."

The band had previously confirmed that the album would be released in 2014, with a spokesperson telling Rolling Stone: "We've always said an album is expected this year." In February, the band debuted their comeback single "Invisible" during an advert at the Super Bowl, allowing fans to download it for free on iTunes.

The 'Songs Of Innocence' tracklisting is:

'The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)'
'Every Breaking Wave'
'California (There Is No End To Love)'
'Song For Someone'
'Iris (Hold Me Close)'
'Volcano'
'Raised By Wolves'
'Cedarwood Road'
'Sleep Like A Baby Tonight'
'This Is Where You Can Read Me Now'
'Troubles'

bob crewe died at 82

Four Seasons Songwriter Bob Crewe Dead At 82

 by PAUL CASHMERE

Bob Crewe, the legendary songwriter and producer portrayed in the movie The Jersey Boys, has died at age 82.

Crewe discovered The Four Seasons and co-wrote most of their hits with Bob Gaudio including ‘Walk Like A Man’, ‘Let’s Hang On’, ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ and ‘Dawn (Go Away)’. He also wrote Franki Valli’s solo hit ‘My Eyes Adored You’ as well as ‘Lady Marmalade’ for LaBelle, ‘The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore’ for The Walker Brothers and ‘Jenny Take A Ride’ for Detroit Wheels.

Just a few weeks ago Bob Gaudio spoke to Noise11 and explained The Four Seasons relationship with Bob Crewe. “We made a deal with Bob,” Gaudio said. “We took a job with him pretty much 9 to 5 doing studio work. We got a salary. We worked nights doing the clubs in Newark. He heard some of my songwriting. We spent the year doing background work and studio work and finally got to the point where we said ‘hey, its our turn’. And pretty much, as in the show, he said “so write a hit’ so I did I guess. From ‘Sherrie’ we struck up a writing rapport and from ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ and on (give or take a few that I didn’t write with Bob like ‘Oh What A Night’ and ‘Who Loves You’ which I wrote with my wife Judy Parker) we pretty much did it all together’.

Bob Crewe was an established hit maker before The Four Seasons came along. “Bob is an amazing, talented guy and has lots of successes going back to the late 50s,” he said. “He produced a record called ‘Lucky Ladybug’ for Billy and Lillie if you want to go back that far”.

The story of Bob Crewe was a major part of the stage show and movie The Jersey Boys.

At Bob Crewe’s official website, the announcement of Bob’s death said he “died peacefully, with his brother Dan Crewe by his side, on Wednesday, September 11, 2014 in Scarborough, Maine”.

Donations can be made in Bob’s name to the Maine College of Art Scholarship Fund, the University of Southern Maine School of Music Scholarship Fund, or The Frannie Peabody Center, Portland, Maine.

jimi jamison died at 63

Passings: Jimi Jamison of Survivor (1951 - 2014)

Jimi Jamison, lead singer of Survivor, died on Sunday night from a heart attack. He was 63.

TMZ broke the news on Monday evening. Neither the official Jamison or Survivor sites or Facebook pages have posted the news.

Although born in Mississippi, he and his mother moved to Memphis the day after he was born and he considered that city his home. He learned how to sing and play guitar and piano at a young age and was already in a band in middle school.

Starting in the late 70's, he fronted a number of bands including Target and Cobra along with doing studio work as a background vocalist for the likes of ZZ Top and Joe Walsh.

In 1984, after the breakup of Cobra, he joined Survivor who were already international stars based on their hit Eye of the Tiger. The lead singer for that hit, Dave Bickler, had suffered from vocal problems and was forced to leave the band, opening up the position for Jamison.

Survivor had a number of hits with Jamison in front including I Can't Hold Back (1984 / #13), High On You (1985 / #8), The Search is Over (1985 / #4), Burning Heart (1985 / #2) and Is This Love (1986 / #9).

Late in the 80's, the band's success started to fade leading to the members going on an indefinite hiatus. Jamison began recording solo, including the 1991 album When Love Comes Down. It was that album, which didn't chart, that kept him from accepting an offer to become the lead singer of Deep Purple when Ian Gillan was let go from the band. The record company forced him to pass on the offer to promote the new record.

Jamison would later write and sing I'm Always Here, the theme from the TV show Baywatch, and release another album under the name Jimi Jamison's Survivor, Empires.

Survior reformed in 1993 but with Dave Bickler back on lead. When he was fired from the band in 2000, Jamison returned and stayed with the group for the next six years. After once again leaving in 2006, he rejoined in 2011 and, in 2013, Survivor became a two-lead band with the return of Bickler.
