smashing pumpkins to release 107 tracks album

Smashing Pumpkins to Release 107 Track Deluxe Version of "Adore"

Smashing Pumpkins is going super deluxe on their 1998 album Adore.

The Adore Super Deluxe Package will include 107 tracks over six-CDs/one-DVD, featuring a mono version of the album; In a State of Passage, with demos from Corgan’s home Sadlands studio; Chalices, Palaces, and Deep Pools, devoted to outtakes, among them an instrumental version of For Martha, produced by Flood and Corgan, and Malice, Callous, and Fools, featuring an outtake from the Rick Rubin/Corgan collaboration, Let Me Give the World to You. A sixth disc, Kissed Alive Too, spotlights live tracks recorded in Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and L.A.’s Dodger Stadium, among others, while the DVD captures the Smashing Pumpkins in an August 4, 1998 performance at Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. A full booklet with liner notes is also part of the release.

Adore was the Smashing Pumpkins' fourth studio album and the followup to their hugely successful Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The highly anticipated release was met with a bit of confusion by fans as it took the band in a new direction to a more acoustic and electronica sound. Despite fan reaction, the album went to number 2 in the U.S., 5 in the U.K. and 1 in Australia.

Adore will also be released as a single, remastered CD, a double-vinyl and a 90-track deluxe digital package. All versions are scheduled for September 23 through Virgin/UMe

unheard jimi hendrix songs to be released

Previously unheard Jimi Hendrix recordings to be released

Following decades of litigation, a deal has been reached to allow the release of 88 studio recordings made by Jimi Hendrix between 1965 and 1967.

The rights to the recordings now belong to the Hendrix family's music company, Experience Hendrix LLC, and Sony Music's catalogue division Legacy Recordings. They date back to the guitarist's stint in the band Curtis Knight And The Squires.

As reported by Rolling Stone, the deal ends the Hendrix family's protracted legal dispute between with PPX Enterprises and company founder Ed Chalpin, who made the recordings.

Legacy and Experience Hendrix now plan on releasing newly remastered versions of these recordings under the watch of producer and engineer Eddie Kramer, who worked on many of Hendrix's best-loved albums including 'Are You Experienced' and 'Electric Ladyland'. Fans can expect to hear some live performances among the 88 tracks, including a set recorded in Hackensack, New Jersey in December 1965.

As well as his stint in the R&B group Curtis Knight and the Squires, Hendrix performed as a sideman for The Isley Brothers and Little Richard before the formation of The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

The agreement comes in advance of the release of Jimi: All Is By My Side, a Hendrix biopic starring OutKast’s Andre 3000. The film roughly covers the same time period that the recordings chronicle.

phil rudd will release solo album

Phil Rudd Of AC/DC To Give Fans Head Job

 by PAUL CASHMERE

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been quietly working on a solo album and in late August we will get to hear his debut ‘Head Job’.

Rudd says the album is about his personal experiences “about the shit that goes on”.

The first single from ‘Head Job’ is ‘Repo Man’, out this week.

Rudd assures us that the title track ‘Head Job’ is another one of those great AC/DC double-meanings and is actually about “going to the pub to commiserate with your mates about someone doing your head in”.

Other song titles include “Bad Move” and “Crazy”.

Phil Rudd ‘Head Job’ will be released through Universal on August 29, 2014.

AC/DC have also downed tools on their next album. The yet-to-be titled album is currently being mixed. The release date is still to be determined.

Meanwhile, there is no further update on the health issues plaguing founding member Malcolm Young. Singer Brian Johnson has confirmed that Young is in hospital.

Young stepped down from the band because of his health problems. His nephew Stevie Young has replaced him on the next album.

blondie may end

The End May Be Near For Blondie

Drummer Clem Burke has been with Blondie since the very beginning in 1975, so he should have a pretty good grasp on the future of the group.

Burke talked to Vancouver's The Province, telling them that lead singer Debbie Harry has hinted that their current tour in support of Ghosts of Download may be their last.

By the time we get to beautiful Vancouver, B.C., we will have toured Europe, played Glastonbury and done a number of big festivals in North America. As for the rumours of the last tour, we've decided we’ll live forever. But Debbie, is older than me and has hinted it could be time. Obviously without her, there is no Blondie."
Harry just turned 69 making her the oldest member of the original group. Guitarist Chris Stein is 64 and Burke is 58.  The three have been part of Blondie since 1975 although the band was apart from 1982 to 1997.

No matter what happens, Burke will stay busy. The man who was also a part-time member of the Ramones as Elvis Ramone, has played on many sessions for other artists and is a part of the new group the Empty Hearts with Elliott Murphy of the Cars, Wally Palmer of the Romantics and Andy Babiuk of the Chesterfield Kings.

Blondie are currently touring Europe, wrapping up on August 31 and have just one more date scheduled on October 3 at Harrah's Rincon Casino and Resort in Valley Center, CA.

johnny winter died at 70

Passings: Johnny Winter (1944 - 2014)

Blues-rock guitarist Johnny Winter has died while touring in Switzerland at the age of 70. No official cause of death has been announced but sources are saying that it was a medical situation. Jenda Derringer, wife of Rick Derringer, has stated that he "was not in good health and was very frail and weak."

Johnny and his younger brother Edgar, who were both born with albanism, began performing music at an early age, appearing on local children's shows initially playing guitar. By the age of 15, Johnny was already in the recording studio with his band Johnny and the Jammers and, by early his early 20's, was sitting in with Texas artists like Roy Head.

In 1968, Winter released his first solo album, The Progressive Blues Experiment on Texas' Sonobeat Records (later rereleased by Imperial) which saw him mixing music by Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Sonny Boy Williamson and other with his own compositions.

Johnny got his big break in December 1968 when he joined Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper on stage at the Fillmore East in New York to perform. A rep from Columbia Records saw the performance and signed Winter to what was reportedly, at the time, the biggest advance ever, $600,000.

During 1969, Winter released both Johnny Winter and Second Winter which produced songs that became staples of his career including Good Morning Little Schoolgirl and Highway 61 Revisited. The pre-release publicity and his touring made them both minor hits, reaching 25 and 55 respectively.

For his next album, Johnny Winter and, he put together a new band that included former McCoys guitarist Rick Derringer and Derringer's brother Randy Z. With more of a rock orientation, the album failed to equal sales of the first two, reaching only 154 but it has gone on to be considered a classic. It was during this time that Winter fell into heroin addiction for which he eventually sought treatment.

In 1973, Winter was back with a mix of blues and rock on Still Alive and Well which became his highest charting album going to 22. He continued to see success the next year with Saints and Sinners (#42) and John Dawson Winter III (#78).

Johnny fulfilled a lifelong dream in the late 70's when he was able to both play with and produce blues great Muddy Waters. Their time together produced three Waters albums, Hard Again, I'm Ready and King Bee along with the live album Muddy "Mississippi" Waters - Live.

Since the 70's, Winter released seven more studio albums with an eighth, Step Back, scheduled for release on September 2. He also toured regularly and became popular at festivals including last weekend's Lovely Days Festival in Wiesen, Austria which would become his final performance.

Winter became a member of the Blues Hall of Fame in 1988. He and his brother, Edgar, are also members of the Southeast Texas "Walk of Fame".
